Interior Stylist Steve Cordony’s 19th Century Country Home
Interior stylist Steve Cordony and Michael Booth purchased ‘Rosedale Farm’ – an 1877 house in Orange, NSW – with a vision to create a truly breathtaking country estate.
The bones of the home were already magnificent, but significant work (in keeping with the property’s age) was initially required to update its plumbing and electrical systems. From there, the cosmetic renovations could begin!
Steve designed the renovations himself to showcase the home’s traditional features, while introducing a ‘contemporary overlay with a mix of European detailing and American classic styling elements.’
The kitchen was central to the renovation, and the result of many hours spent searching for inspiration on Pinterest. ‘The look was heavily inspired by the classic English shaker kitchens, with brass detailing and statement lighting to bring the space together,’ Steve says.
Steve and Michael entertain most weekends at the farm, so the provision of quality appliances that wouldn’t detract from the styling was essential. ‘Having the absolute best kitchen appliances was number one when considering the redesign of the kitchen,’ says Steve. ‘I have always had Miele appliances in every home we have owned, and so it was important to have the same trusted brand in this renovation.’
Steve became one of the first customers to install appliances from the Miele Generation 7000 range, including two dishwashers, a steam combination oven with a plate warmer, fridge, and a gas cooktop. A Miele W1 front-loading washing machine and matching dryer are also installed in the laundry, stacked on top of each other to maximise space.
French oak flooring and Arebescato marble work to tie the kitchen together, creating a balance of textures that encourages guests to relax.
‘I love the overall feel of the home, but in particular, the kitchen space lends itself to having family and friends congregate in a space that feels “designed” but also feels homely,’ says Steve.
Steve and Michael’s renovations have completely transformed this significant home to be more open and conducive to their lifestyle, although its pedigree and history lives on. Steve says, ‘The feeling and the soul of the home is just as it was the first day we saw it and fell in love.’
