Dezeen Showroom: CMP Design has a created series of outdoor chairs for Pedrali, which feature a traditional hand-woven backrest informed by the Mediterranean coastline.
Called Panarea, the collection includes an armchair and a lounge chair designed for al fresco dining.
“The idea behind Panarea is rooted in the Mediterranean coastline, in the colours and refreshing breeze of an outdoor dinner on a sea-facing terrace on a pleasant summer day,” Pedrali said.

The chairs are constructed from a tubular steel frame and polypropylene cord, which is wrapped around the armrests and handwoven into a geometric pattern to form the backrest.
Beyond emphasising the curvature of the chair, the woven back also pays homage to Italian craftsmanship.

“A woven object always inspires a certain reverence for manual work or handmade work,” CMP Design said.
“It is a kind of respect for dedication, it is a kind of charm for an archaic beauty that we can find in some handcrafts, in our landscapes, in the peaks or along coastlines or in our countryside.”

Panarea has a wide, cushioned seat covered in the same yarn as the woven backrest.
Its lightweight structure is easy to move and available in a variety of colourful finishes.
